A photofacial is also known as laser skin rejuvenation. It’s a cutting-edge treatment that uses pulses of light to stimulate the production of collagen within the structures of the skin. You might also hear it called IPL treatment. This stands for Intense Pulsed Light and, while it’s very similar to a simple laser, it differs in that it releases several different wavelengths of light at the same time. These light pulses are less focused and more scattered than a single laser, meaning that they penetrate down to the second layer of the skin without damaging the top layer (the epidermis). This lower layer (the dermis) absorbs the pulses of light, stimulating collagen and causing the blood vessels to constrict. The results can be quite remarkable: the skin becomes smoother and softer, a noticeable reduction of wrinkles and fine lines, fading pigmentation and age spots, shrinking pores, and improving the appearance of many unwanted facial or skin blemishes. A photofacial treatment takes around 30 minutes and requires no downtime, making it a breeze to fit in during a lunch break, before, or after work.
